A new Vision, a new Structure

The directorate of the UT has agreed with the Rector/Dean/ Rector of ITC to merge the 6 academic departments of the faculty ITC into 3. In this way, they would like to create a more stimulating environment to share academic know-how and skills. In view of this proposal, the board has approached Prof. Anas Th. Vulgaris (Chair in spatial assessment of hydro-feathertative aspects at the Pontificia Universita Buffonata in Rome) to evaluate the achievements and the “characters” of the different Faculty Departments.
It has been noted that the usual research evaluations have an inappropriate suite of factors and indicators to be used in the evaluation. Publication in ISI journals is heavily over weighted (and rated) and other achievements are ignored. Top quality scientific output can only be produced when there is a good team spirit and a pleasant social climate in the research team. Therefore, a new approach was chosen to assess the 6 departments for their scientific quality as well as their social and inspiring climate.
Using a “Delphi approach”, an institute wide panel of staff members were contacted by Prof. A.Th Vulgaris and requested to list factors and indicators to be considered in the research. The result of the first step of self evaluation resulted in a clear direction of indicator development. In a second assessment round, consensus was reached in the duck pond on the factors and indicators to actually be used. All higher academic staff (professors and associate professors) was ranked for their performance in view of each indicator.
The results of this ranking will be published annually in the H-factor bulletin.
